“....Ray Vega could easily end up being one of the best in the Latin-Jazz playground”
-jazzusa.com

“Whether on trumpet of flugelhorn. which he plays with equal dexterity, he featured a sound that is bolder than that of many jazz horns, yet avoided the insistent upper register flights that is the norm among latin players.”

Bronx native, international ambassador of Latin jazz, Vermont Public radio host, and distinguished music educator, Ray Vega brings his undeniably brilliant mix of Latin and Afro-Caribbean jazz to the Meeting House on the Green.
Ray has performed and/or recorded with the likes of Joe Henderson, Lionel Hampton, Mel Torme, Paquito D’Rivera, Arturo Sandoval, The Spanish Harlem Orchestra, Poncho Sanchez, Steve Turre, Israel Lopez "Cachao", Larry Harlow and Las Leyendas De La Fania, Pete Escovedo, The Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, Jazz at Lincoln Center Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, and Paul Simon, among others.
Allaboutjazz.com sums it up perfectly, noting, “Vega's own style of trumpet imparts the best of his forefathers’ traits: the crisp, intelligent delivery of Freddie Hubbard, the passionate fortitude of Kenny Dorham, the clean precision of Woody Shaw, and the romantic depth of Chet Baker and Art Farmer.”
Join us for what is sure to be an unforgettable taste of the rich music of the Ray Vega Afro-Caribbean Jazz Ensemble.
